Antwerp City Museums, the Antwerp Museum of Contemporary Art (M HKA) and the Antwerp Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSKA) once again joined forces to host this international architectural exhibition.
The exhibition highlighted the most significant trends in contemporary museum architecture, displaying 29 projects by internationally renowned architects and architectural firms. Works by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates, Atelier Brückner, ART+COM, Daniel Libeskind, Jean Nouvel, Renzo Piano, Mario Botta, Zaha Hadid Architects, Gehry Partners LLP and many more are brought to life through models, sketches, plans and photographs.
Architectural momentum
Suzanne Greub, director of the Art Centre Basel, was the brainchild behind the idea and concept of the exhibition, which has been on show in no less than 14 cities across four continents since its inception in 2006. Given the degree of architectural momentum in Antwerp, it is no surprise that the city will now also host the exhibition. The future expansion of the oldest museum (KMSKA) and the construction of the latest one, Museum aan de Stroom (MAS), perfectly complement the purposes of the exhibition. These two Antwerp museum projects are consequently granted a special place therein.
