Stimulate all your senses with the new KMSKA perfume

How do you translate the pleasure gardens of the Flemish Masters into scents? Which notes bring the classical halls of the KMSKA to your skin? And how do you distill the striking architecture of the new museum into a delightful concentrate? We invite you to discover the answer for yourself with an exclusive KMSKA perfume.
Fragrance artist Laura de Coninck created a scent that captures the soul of the museum. Inspired by the Flemish Masters, the unique architecture, and the painter’s studio, this perfume offers a new sensory art experience.
A fragrance full of inspiration from the collection
The KMSKA perfume brings iconic elements of the museum to life. Spicy gardens, mysterious rituals, and the atmosphere of both the classical halls and the modern museum wing each receive their own olfactory accents. Together with fragrance historian Alexandre Helwani and KMSKA curator Koen Bulckens, Laura de Coninck worked to translate the museum’s versatility into scent.
Themes in fragrance accords
The fragrance composition consists of various accords, each inspired by an aspect of the collection and architecture. Earthy and fruity notes such as carnation and rose evoke the vibrant gardens often depicted in classical paintings. Incense and myrrh bring the mystical rituals from the art to life, while modern molecules like sandalwood give the perfume a contemporary, light touch. The theme of ‘Chiaroscuro,’ found throughout the museum, is also expressed in the perfume, creating an exciting contrast between light and dark notes.
Woodcut by Rubens
For the perfume bottle and packaging, designer An Eisendrath of Studio Anorak drew inspiration from an old woodcut by Rubens. She enlarged the image so much that it becomes abstract. The play of black and white, opaque and transparent, aligns beautifully with the concept of chiaroscuro.
Natural ingredients
The KMSKA perfume is composed of high-quality and precious ingredients, such as vetiver from Haiti, patchouli from Indonesia, cedarwood from Texas, fragrant myrrh (opopanax) from Somalia, centifolia roses, Bourbon geranium, cinnamon bark oil, bergamot from Italy, black pepper from Madagascar, and more. These and other natural ingredients are sourced as much as possible from natural harvests and ecological cultivation. The added synthetic elements are also of the highest quality. The packaging minimizes paper usage and contains no coating or cellophane.
