KMSKA LATE - Figures for Gormley

What happens when a sculpture comes to life? In Figures for Gormley, choreographer Kinga Jaczewska enters into a dialogue with Antony Gormley’s sculptures. Taking his recognisable human figures as their starting point, the performers explore how the same body can evoke ever-changing meanings through subtle shifts in tension, gaze and intention. The sculpture ceases to be a static object and becomes a constantly transforming presence.

Following the rational and functional movement language of BRUT, inspired by brutalist architecture, Figures for Gormley opens the door to the intuitive, the circular and the non-linear. The choreography poses questions about what makes movement functional. Can a decorative, emotional or vulnerable movement be just as necessary as a purposeful action?

Jaczewska, inspired by Antony Gormley, as well as Barbara Hepworth, Eileen Gray and Ron Mueck, develops a choreography in which sculpture and the body mutually shape one another.
