With the Friends to Ghent MSK – "Unforgettable" & S.M.A.K.

On Saturday 7 March we will visit a remarkable exhibition close to home at the MSK. Unforgettable. Women Artists from Antwerp to Amsterdam from 1600 to 1750 brings together the work of more than forty women who played an important role in the artistic life of the Low Countries. Their influence was significant, but was often forgotten later on. The exhibition presents their art, their living environment and addresses the question of why they are less well known today, despite the recognition they received in their own time.

In the morning we first visit S.M.A.K., with or without a guide. Those who opt for a guided tour will discover the exhibition Resistance. The Power of the Image. This group exhibition shows how Spanish artists used art as a form of resistance, from the Spanish Civil War to recent protest movements. The focus is on resistance against the Franco regime and on new social movements in the past decade.
