REantwerp x KMSKA: from Geometric Art to Wearable Designs

To mark the exhibition Guy Vandenbranden in the European Avant-Garde, fashion label REantwerp has developed a special capsule collection inspired by the artist’s geometric visual language, in collaboration with the Guy Vandenbranden Estate and Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery. A collaboration far from being a coincidence.
What do Guy Vandenbranden and the Antwerp-based fashion label REantwerp have in common? The answer is as obvious as it is unexpected: both share(d) a deep fascination with the art of screen printing.
Two Visions, One Technique
Guy Vandenbranden (1926–2014) was a key figure in post-war Belgian geometric abstraction. Throughout his career, he sought to develop his own simple yet harmonious visual language, while also becoming a pioneer of artistic screen printing in Belgium.
Together with Jo Delahaut and Pol Bury, whose works are also featured in the exhibition, he was among the first to experiment with the technique in the context of Art Abstrait, the artists’ group he joined in 1956. The group also published screen-printed works. Vandenbranden was particularly drawn to the technique’s ability to produce flat, uniform areas of colour and exceptionally precise lines. He also appreciated its democratic potential: artworks could be reproduced in editions, making them more accessible to a wider audience.
At REantwerp, screen printing serves a different purpose: it offers a way to give existing textiles a new lease of life. For this collaboration, motifs drawn from Vandenbranden’s work are screen-printed by hand onto garments. The result is a collection that brings together the power of geometric forms and colour with the craftsmanship of the printing process. The handmade approach creates subtle variations in coverage, placement and texture, giving each piece its own distinctive character.
Art Beyond the Gallery Walls
The collaboration also reflects Vandenbranden’s vision of art as an integral part of everyday life. He did not want art to be confined to paintings or museum spaces; he also believed it should find its place in architecture, fashion and the urban environment. The capsule collection carries this idea forward, bringing his visual language literally closer to the public.
About REantwerp
REantwerp is a socially driven, sustainable fashion studio based in Antwerp. Founded in 2023 by designer Tim Van Steenbergen, fashion journalist Ruth Goossens and GATAM vzw, the label works with offcuts and surplus materials from Belgian designers and quality brands. Its garments are produced locally in limited editions.
At its workshop, newcomers and refugees with experience in textiles have the opportunity to further develop their professional skills and take steps towards employment in Belgium’s textile and fashion industry.
The capsule collection features short- and long-sleeved T-shirts and jumpers. Discover the collection alongside the exhibition Guy Vandenbranden in the European Avant-Garde, which explores both the work of this Belgian abstract pioneer and his active role in the post-war European avant-garde.
