A song about somber feelings in Gallery Light

IKRAAAN will release her debut album later this year, with Dode bloem now coming out as the first single. As artist in residence at the museum, the choice of location for the video was quickly made. One of our new halls turned out to be the perfect empty, white setting for the video.

Dode bloem

Dode bloem describes a difficult period in IKRAAAN’s life. “This song is very close to my heart. Writing Dode bloem required me to deal with my emotions very consciously. I was able to draw a lot of strength from that, and now I look back on that difficult period with a different, more positive perspective.”

Since the release of Dode bloem, IKRAAAN has received various responses from people telling her that the song helps them. “I’m happy with what the song inspires. My hope is that other people, just like me, face their fears and realize how deep certain things run. Only then can you do something about your unhappiness.”

The beautiful gallery gave me the energy to give myself completely.

The choreography

IKRAAAN conceived the story of the music video in advance. Choreographer Alex Xray translated her concept into dance, leaving room for improvisation in which IKRAAAN transforms the feeling of the lyrics into movements. In the end, she is still guided by Alex, who represents society as a dancer, while IKRAAAN remains her alter ego, “the clown.”
